Medicare Part D is not provided by Medicare directly. To get Medicare Part D, which is prescription drug insurance coverage, you must choose and enroll in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan provided by a private insurance company.
Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance) coverage may be provided directly through Medicare or through a private insurance company.
To get full Medicare coverage you must be enrolled in Medicare Part A, Part B, and Part D.
